My Club Lotto win puts Wayne in the fast lane
London, August 13, 2020:
Sunday League footballer Wayne Gadsby knew My Club Lotto was the right road to funding his club – and duly netted a cool £3,000.
Wayne, who is heavily involved with Lichfield-based Fountain United, bought a My Club Lotto 50/50 lottery ticket in July after the Lichfield & Walsall District Football League side joined a growing number of rugby, football, cricket and other grassroots sports clubs taking advantage of the revenue sharing scheme and other commercial services offered by My Club Market.
The logistics manager for a local transport company purchased his ticket via www.myclublotto.co.uk after initially signing up the club and promoting the service on its Facebook page – and now Wayne and the club have hit the jackpot, as Fountain United scooped £300, part of My Club’s unique lotto game which helps boost much-needed income for grassroots clubs.
Delighted Wayne, 49, said: “We have been playing the Lotto for about three or four months. We started it in lockdown.
“I saw it advertised and registered with My Club Lotto, and told a few of the lads on WhatsApp and on our Facebook page. We felt it was a good way of getting a little bit of money into the club on a monthly basis.
“And we just felt we had to get a little something coming in because, being a Sunday team, we felt the pub that usually sponsor us might not be able to do so this season.”
The club’s unique Lotto service means that the club benefits with every ticket purchased and Liverpool fan Wayne could not believe his luck when checking his numbers.
“It was a very nice surprise,” he said. “I work nights and I checked my ticket in the early hours of the Saturday morning and noticed the winning numbers had been updated. I checked the numbers against my ticket and was a bit surprised. I double checked and got the gentleman who was working with me on the night to make sure I wasn’t seeing things!”
Wayne, who has been involved with the Lichfield & Walsall District Football League for the past 24 years and won the League Secretary of the Year award in 2018, has already spent his winnings, treating both his wife and his club.
He explained: “The money has gone. Something I always wanted was a new car, so I put a deposit on a newer car for myself and a deposit for a newer car for my wife as well.
“And I know the club won £300 as an additional part of the prize as well, which is great, but I also bought them a brand-new second kit.”
Wayne, who turns out occasionally for Fountain United – “I’m 49 now and I think my time is almost up!” – feels that My Club Lotto should be something all clubs take a look at.
He added: “When I joined, there was about 300 teams involved in the Lotto and now that has doubled.
“I would certainly recommend clubs getting their own Lotto service, especially now that it is a weekly draw. I’m known in the league, so have talked to a couple of clubs about it and hopefully they’ll sign up and make some money for themselves. It’s a great concept to bring money into their clubs and have a bit of fun while doing it.”
